The film is directed by Mohnish Bahl. The movie tells the story of two men who are friends from childhood even though they belong to different religions and castes. One of them is a Hindu from Brahmin caste while the other is Muslim from Rajput caste. They decide to marry the women they love. But their friendship gets tested when they realize that each of them is in love with the other's sister. Krishna (Mithun Chakraborty) is a Brahmin boy who lives with his mother, sister and niece Geeta (Preeti Jhangiani). His father had gone to jail for killing an enemy, and Krishna takes care of his mother and sister. Geeta has been in love with Krishna from her childhood, but her father forbids them from physical contact. One day, when Geeta refuses to eat a humble meal that Krishna had made for her in order to protest against the old customs of caste-based discrimination, he transforms into a 'devil' and slaps her. At night, when Geeta is going to attend a college party with friends - all of whom are from different castes - she remembers his sacrifice for her and promises to marry him one day. In the meantime, she falls in love with Manohar Singh (Shatrughan Sinha), who has been attending this same college for the last 3 years. Manohar informs her of his intention to marry her. Krishna gets angry with him, because he too loves Geeta. Krishna's friend, Majnu (Ravi Baswani) wants Krishna to ask for Geeta's hand in marriage, but he refuses. At the end, Manohar wins Geeta over by asking Krishna for her hand in marriage on his behalf. However, after their marriage, Manohar's family arranges to take him away so that they can get her married again to someone else in Ambala.
